In this related event, which will be held prior to the concert, the lecturer will be Dr. Shinichi Fukuyama, a researcher who studies and publishes on how these world-class pianists prepare for their performances: how they practice, how they use their bodies, what forms of mental and physical conditioning they employ.
This lecture is open both to budding performers and the general public.
Shinichi Furuya is an associate researcher at SONY CSL, and holds a position as a guest professor at Institute for Music Physiology and Musician’s Medicine at Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media, Germany.He studied mechanical engineering(BSc), biomechanics (MS), and motor neuroscience (PhD) at Osaka University, Japan.
He then worked at Kwansei Gakuin University (Japan), University of Minnesota (USA),Hannover University of Music, Drama and Media (Germany), and Sophia University(Japan).
He received Postdoctoral Fellowship at Alexander von Humboldt Foundation(AvH), Heisenberg Fellowship at Germany Research Foundation (DFG), and postdoctoral fellowship at Japan Society for Promoting Science (JSPS).
He received Leading Initiative for Excellent Young Researchers（LEADER）from MEXT.
He is also a pianist with several prizes at domestic professional piano competitions in Japan. As a pioneer and leading researcher of music performance science, he has given a number of invited talks at universities, conferences, and workshops in the world.
